Our American & European Fine & Decorative Arts sale celebrates centuries of stylistic and aesthetic collecting categories, focusing on British, American, and Continental furniture, decorative objects, and fine art from interesting collections and estates. Highlights include a selection of Chinese Export porcelain from The Collection of James M. Labaugh Antiques, a series of portrait paintings depicting Abraham Walkowitz from The Newark Museum of Art, and property from The Collection of Mrs. Jordan Saunders. STAIR offers a fine group of American Furniture from a New York Collector with distinguished provenance including a Classical Giltwood Girandole Mirror from the Totten Family, a Federal Mahogany Sideboard, attributed to the Shop of Benjamin Bass Jr. (1775-1819), and a Carving attributed to Thomas Wightman (1759-1827) from the Reid Family as well as a Queen Anne Dressing Table from the Moulton Family.

Sanford L. Smith was a collector and entrepreneur who created some of New York’s most prestigious art fairs, supporting areas of the market that were of particular interest to him such as Americana, Outsider Art and Modernism. Smith loved collecting, amassing a large and eclectic collection that represented his interests and personal aesthetic. The Collection of Sanford L. Smith represents a life and love of collecting that was shared with millions of like-minded lovers of art and antiques through the fairs hosted by the eponymous Sanford L. Smith + Associates. Highlights in the sale include weathervanes and important Americana, Folk Art, works on paper by Charles Burchfield and John Marin, Marine paintings, and a selection of Western bronzes.

With a focus on modern and contemporary art from the 20th and 21st centuries, 20/21 at STAIR offers paintings, works on paper, photography and sculpture in various styles and modalities by artists from around the world. Highlights include works from the Abrams Family Collection, the Collection of Paul Kasmin, the Collection of Gordon and Zanne Stewart, works sold to benefit the Heckscher Museum of Art, and books from the Matisse family.
