These folks know how to pack fragile items
I won a tall fragile wood carving measuring 22 inches high. Artemis packed this so well, that you could have dropped the box off the top of a building and no damage would have occurred to the item. I am truly impressed with the level of care they took. I will definitely buy from Artemis again.

My most disappointing spending of thousands of dollars
Items were received just fine, but a simple questions concerning an offer I made on an item that did not get sold and a request to ship with DHL were met with the greatest difficulties. Did not get an answer on my offer before I put one of the co-founders of Artemis Gallery in cc in my e-mail (had to do this more than once). Artemis Gallery needed 1 full week to reply on every single one of my mails. Reason for that was because the person who was dealing with customer offers had a personal issue at home. I would expect a company like Artemis Gallery to have some back up if someone with a customer related function can't go to work. Got a wrong invoice, but that happened only once. Shipping with DHL which is not a preferred forwarder at Artemis Gallery was also a big issue. Thank god that Kristen Gacoin is working at Artemis Gallery-she's the one who finally made it all happen, that kept on assuring me, almost daily, relentlessly. DHL delivered the items in only 2 days after it picked up the items at Artemis Gallery. It took a full 2 months before I received my items. Even more than 2 months after having received the items, this purchase really feels like my worst one ever. Even though I'm thrilled with the items I got!

Hello-We appreciate your feedback, and once again, we are so sorry for the difficulties at the time your order was placed. Regarding the issues with the original item you desired, your offer was below the reserve set by the consignor, which presented difficulties with negotiations on that piece. Although our sales manager attempted to work with you and the consignor on that item quite a bit (a portion of the delay) the consignor wasn't willing to come down on the price, and monetary roadblocks of this sort are a part of the business, and beyond our control. It is true, and quite unfortunate, that our sales manager also experienced a sudden death in the family during this time and, being that we are a small gallery, we did not have an alternate plan in place to fill his position on short notice. We apologize for the interruptions in communications during this time, and that being short-staffed may have lengthened the time between correspondence between you and other staff members. We did our very best to keep you informed during this unusual time of unforeseen circumstances. To address the lengthy DHL shipping process: we clearly communicated our lack of a DHL account, which would present additional processes and steps to arrange and execute the shipment, over which we had little or no control. We did our very best to meet these challenges in accommodating your request to use DHL, but you are correct in that it admittedly took us more time than usual to ship your order to you using their services. We regret that all of these circumstances culminated in a negative Artemis Gallery experience-that is never what we want to hear, and we hope to never face this same chain of events again! But if we do, we will have taken what we've learned in the past and use the knowledge to present a better customer experience moving forward. I Usually Dislike Auctions
Collections, when not for resale, are very personal. This item and the process involved, satisfied my personal requirements and fit my eclectic collection of historically significant pieces. Very Nice. I usually don't like auctions, the bid, the wait, Artemis Gallery is changing my mind.

Outstanding dealer
I try to be very careful with who I purchase antiquities from. Artemis is one of a small group of dealers I normally buy through; they are communicative, knowledgeable, and have a strong reputation. On the single occasion that I needed to return an item, they were very quick to take it back and issue a refund. I also like the fact that they have their own testing lab and research staff. I've always been pleased to do business with this institution.

Good customer service. Bad practices
Their customer service was responsive and fast. However, they used way bigger packaging than needed to inflate the shipping price. Had a 4x1x1 item they put in a 12x12x12 box. This made the shipping very high. Contacting them got the price down a little, but still nowhere near what would make sense for a product of this size. If you want to pay way over the product price in fees and shipping to with this company.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback. We have looked into the shipping cost, the size of the box and the size of your item. Since our insurance requires that we have a minimum of two inches of packing peanuts around the bubble wrap on all sides of the item in the box, and your item also included a small custom stand, we used the smallest box that we had in stock for your item. The 12X12X12 box is the smallest box we are currently using because the Certificates of Authority we enclose cannot be folded, and they're on letter-sized paper, in a large window envelope. The smallest box that we would have been able to have used, had we had them in stock, would have been a 12X12X6, and with our newer, discounted shipping prices that we have JUST implemented for our valued customers over the past week or two (THIS IS NEW AND WE HAVE YET TO SEND AN EMAIL OR COMMUNICATION OUT TO ANNOUNCE THIS, but we are very excited to be able to offer a new less-expensive rate now!) we would have been able to lower your shipping cost from $40 t0 $23 for that sized box. We will be contacting Live Auctioneers to process a $17 refund to your original payment method as soon as possible. We do hope that this detailed information, along with the refund due to our new lower, discounted shipping prices helps to explain our shipping processes a bit more as well as help recoup some of your costs. 30 Days Item Still Hasn’t Shipped
So here I am, 30 DAYS after the auction, still waiting on my lot to be SHIPPED … It’s funny how they could hold auctions everyday for a week but can’t ship a single item after a month. I also paid the invoice the moment I received it. I add one star because at least their client relations manager is nice, but she’s of no help in getting my item shipped.

Efficient, Thorough, Fair-minded
The Artemis Gallery, in my experience, handles all of the basics (billing, shipping/handling etc.) with expertise. But the exemplary customer service I received when a won lot arrived not quite as described really set this gallery apart in my experience. As Buyer's Premiums continue (in some cases outrageously) to sky-rocket and online bidding increases in spite of auction houses failure to take responsibility for the accuracy of descriptions and condition reports, the Artemis Gallery firmly stands behind its policy putting customer satisfaction first. Moreover, it does so fairly, without judgment, and as practiced by Kristen, the wonderful client relations manager, with what certainly struck me as a sincere willingness to compromise. I look forward to future dealings with the Artemis Gallery.

Not the Best Experience
I found the description of the item I purchased to be not quite accurate. Specifically, they understated its flaws and exaggerated its overall quality. I also found the photo of the item far more appealing than the item I received, making me wonder if a filter of some kind was used.

Hello-We are sorry that you're unhappy with your painting and that you're in disagreement with the writer's viewpoint on the piece. We aren't in the practice of using filters during the photo process of our pieces, but especially with artwork and oils, different lighting can pick up such different qualities in a piece, and it really can make all the difference where it's displayed. Thankfully, our return policy does allow for these various factors that can't be accounted for until you receive an item in your home, and know whether a piece was the right choice for you. We normally only allow return of an item for a refund within 15 days of delivery and after that we offer account credit, but in this case, we would be happy to make an exception to our policy and have you return the piece for a refund.
