Not only was I surprised to be the high bidder for an artwork from Andre Leon Talley's estate, but the resulting process of payment and arranging shipping (through a third party) could not have been easier. I am extremely pleased to have done business STAIR, which is a highly reputable auction house. I certainly will watch their upcoming auctions for other works that catch my eye.

Purchased a $3, 500 photograph and have had zero replies to several messages over 3-4 weeks. No response, so status update, no merchandise. Honestly, pretty surprised and very disappointed in their service so far.

Easy to work with

I was very impressed with the fast response to my questions and the niceness that went along with the transaction. I only won one item but was treated like a big spender. Very professional and friendly too. Will definitely watch for their sales. Thanks folks!

This is a reputable auction house and they did communicate well regarding payment, pickup, etc. However, when I received my silk rug there were several large tears in it that were not disclosed in the condition report. It was noted there that there was mild wear and discoloration, but the damage was more serious than disclosed. I’m having to pay extra to get it professionally repaired. I used UPS store 5539 as the shipper. They were bad. They overcharged me (input the dimensions and added extra weight and linear inches to the box to upcharge). They also didn’t pack the item well, it was just folded haphazardly and thrown in the box to slide around. Having said that, the rug is still a beautiful piece and I did receive the item I bid on.

All is well with regards to the auction but you are left to yourself to organize the shipment. In my case a very bad experience with UPS. They destroyed the piece that arrived very late and without communication. They left the 2000usd worth package outside the door without ringing, regardless of the weather, rain or not. Avoid UPS.

For such a prestigious auction house, my first experience with STAIR was extremely disappointing. Firstly, 1/2 of the items was not included in the shipment given to the UPS Store that was shipped to me and had to be found and shipped by STAIR at a later time. Secondly and not important of all was the condition of the dishes purchased which was overall very poor. These plates should have been donated to charity or kept by a family member but not auctioned at a premium.

My second purchase from Stair and I am very happy with my lovely Matisse etching. I have friends who have bought from them and all have nothing but good to say. They were, however, let down badly by their reccomended shippers, UPS Store # 4541, who tried to severely overcharge us for the freighting of the work to us in London.

All was fine. And, the packing & shipping of the prints by the UPS Store # 5539 in Hudson, N. Y. was Excellent. I would recommend them.

Item paid for but never received and NO answer to emails!!

First class auction house, not only in the quality of their merchandise but their customer service is exceptional.

my won lots were very accurately described, upon receipt I found them to exceed expectations (there is only so much even the best photography can achieve). Lovely after sale support for the arranging of shipping; i found their recommendations for shipping agents most helpful, and I'm very satisfied with the service supplied by the local agent (UPS in Hudson, NY) I selected. I look forward to fututre purchases from this auction house

The shipping exceeded the price of the item bought. It was shipped with freight rather than UPS. They told me, that UPS would not take it, although I received very similar items with UPS at 50 % of what I paid to the freight company.
